Today everybody's talking about Met Gala 2018 and the theme of this edition, religion. At first, when the theme was chosen, it was expected to be a polemical edition, but celebrities and designers passed this difficult and risky challenge. But is it really difficult? I mean of course it is, if you understand this religious outfit challenge like Rihanna, but it shouldn't be difficult, basically because religion is in fashion, specially when it comes to jewelry.
At this point we already know that one of the jewelry fashion trends is wearing necklaces: the more you're wearing, the cooler you are. We started wearing them last Summer, but it seems that it wasn't enough, because this Summer -actually it's still spring- they're a must have, specially the ones inspired by religion. Crosses and Virgin necklaces are so popular that we don't stop seeing them on Instagram: combined with more crosses, with simple chokers or even with a fries necklace.
Actually, they're becoming so popular and trendy that I consider that the original meaning of these symbols are becoming distorted. I mean, I love how they look, but as I'm not a believer I don't think wearing them is appropriate. What do you think? Do you consider that religion is in fashion or just its symbols?
Cuando la religión está de moda
El tema del día de hoy es indiscutiblemente la Met Gala 2018 y el tema de esta edición, la religión. Al principio, cuando se eligió el tema, se esperaba que fuera una edición un tanto polémica, pero las celebrities y los diseñadores han pasado con nota este difícil y arriesgado desafío. Pero ¿es realmente difícil? Quiero decir, por supuesto lo es, si entiendes lo de fiesta de temática religiosa como Rihanna, pero no debería ser difícil, básicamente porque la religión está de moda, especialmente cuando se trata de joyas.
A estas alturas, ya sabrás que una de las tendencias de moda de joyitas es usar collares: cuanto más lleves, más guay eres. Ya los empezamos a usar el verano pasado, pero parece que no fue suficiente, porque este verano -en realidad todavía es primavera- son imprescindibles, especialmente los inspirados por la religión. Los collares de cruces y vírgenes son tan populares que no dejamos de verlos en Instagram: combinados con más cruces, con gargantillas simples o incluso con un collar de patatas fritas.
De hecho, se están volviendo tan populares y modernos que yo considero que el significado original de estos símbolos se está desvirtuando. Quiero decir, me encanta cómo quedan, pero como no soy creyente, no creo que usarlos sea apropiado. ¿Tú qué piensas? ¿Consideras que la religión está de moda o solo sus símbolos?
